I'm sure it has been done. But it is real hard.Maybe in the water using the all metal mode. I think in the ground it probably has been done if there was more than 1 coin in the hole. I bought one and I placed it on the ground. In the disc. mode I could not pick it up at all, at any depth. Not even point blank.

i found a california 1.00 gold coin 3" deep in wet swampy soil 3 yrs ago with a tosoro vaq. in the all metal mode. it can be done. i usually grid out 2'x2' sqs. and search slow until i'm sure there is nothing there then move on. it takes time but i have found some nice gold,silver coins and gold,silver,platinum rings ,so i know it works. you must do some research also
remember it's where you find it not where you might think it is.

I use a XLT and can pick up a 11 gram nugget 3" deep and if I pull the trigger for all metal mode for sure I pick it up.
