That my fellow detectorist, depends on what you're looking for. Some of us hit the kiddie lots regularly (battery money don't you know?), and others are looking for Civil War relics. In other words, all of us have a different desire!

As in....

I'm so poor (insert how poor are you?), I feel lucky just to find a pull tab!

For coin shooting & jewelry…1) Private property, 2) Schools. Still enough old(er) schools around me that turn up good stuff more than not. 3) Sports fields, 4) Parks My local parks are drying up but still produce goodies enough to keep me coming back. 5) Tot lots. I haven't been much of a tot lot hunter but I find myself doing more and more. Usually good for a pocket full of clad and sometimes a ring.

I research old picnic and fair areas no longer used. Secondly I hit sports fields with the kids and search spectator areas. 3-4-5 wherever some else wants to take me.

Thanks for everyone's input. I guess I was wanting some sort of confirmation that I was searching the "right" places. Hey, GMAN, I noticed you said "Old Churches". I haven't heard that very often on here, but I've thought about it often. I live in a place where there are, of course, the old churches in town, but with a 20min. drive there are the old 1-room churches in the country. Many built in the late 1800's. Anyone have luck at these old churches?

Let me turn it around as usual!
I like all types of hunting ,but for different reasons.
Let's see. An occasional stroll in the park detecting for recreation.
An occasional beach hunt for the easy scooping.
An occasional high end back yard hunt for the high value finds.
An occasional researched cache hunt for great potential.
An occasional researched historic hunt, like a fort site for the unusual finds.
And then there's the occasional SWAG hunt at that interesting spot I passed on the road

That about sums it up for my adventures. OH, They are all #1 each in it's own time. Frank...

1) beaches after storms erode out sand.

2) old town inner-city urban parks where tractors have scraped off the grass to make way for some sort of rennovation.

3) virgin country picnic sites or campgrounds.

Around the NW Chicago suburbs where I live "fella" is pretty much spot on with his top 5.
When I'm looking for pre-1965 coins (silver) I've had very good luck on private property
that was developed before the early 1950's.

Im on board with Fella also. My second and third year out I dug over 100 silvers from parks that the old timers said were cleaned out. Older parks, the trashier, the better.

As far as old churches go, I cleaned up on one that had been detected for years. Dug my first Morgan dollar there, and several other silvers and ring.

My all-time favs are the older ballfields. Dug my first Peace dollar between the ball diamond and concession stand.

Old fairgrounds.
Old sports fields
Private yards.

Here is my top five:
1) Abandoned Towns ( yes, there is plenty of them in the northeast)
2) Land that's in the old Harris/Kakiat land patents ( Land dates pre revolutionary war)
3) Abandoned picnic grounds
4) Bottle dumps
5) Tidal beachs/Lake Draw downs/Lake W---h (Those clowns from the bronx dump a lot of gold on the beachs along with eaten ribs and dirty diapers)*

*3 years ago I netted almost 2g's in scrap gold they lost on the beach after season:thumbsup::laughing7:

I love finding a derelict or abandoned building - especially when Caching. Even better still if the countryside is good (Lake District, Peak District -England, or anywhere in Scotland). Otherwise woodland areas or mountainside :)
