Hey everyone, I don't usually post in this forum but I need help with something.

Could someone out there that knows a lot about horse harnesses or horse tack in general shoot me a PM? I have a bunch of buckles and pieces I'd like to mount in a display that shows each different type of buckle and piece and its purpose in the harness but I need some help actually identifying what I have.

Also, if anyone out there has any diagrams that show harnesses, saddles, etc. with their buckles and other metal pieces that I'd be able to use for this project I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks in advance to any who can help. Pics of each piece along with (approx.) measurements are below.

I think this one is a breeching buckle, in the diagrams these buckles seem to have the rollers. Confirm?

Its going to be extremely difficult with the buckles. There are so many places that they go, and with different manufactures, the buckles could be different, but used in the same place. #4 looks like an adornment piece, and 19 might be a cinch buckle.

I am a harness maker, have worked with harness for over 50 years. Most of what you have are just buckles that have the tongues missing. So they are not really representative of what they are for display purposes. Also the same type of buckle can and is used in many different places on a harness the size is more the factor as to where it would be used then the shape. There are thousands of different styles of buckles. the ones you have appear to be just plain cheap metal since the appear badly rusted. Buckles have been and are made from many different materials including but not limited to ,brass , bronze, stainless steel. many are brass plated or nickel plated.
If you have more questions about harness type hardware post here again and I might be able to help.

Thanks for the info. I went to the PA Farm Show this past weekend and saw exactly what you mean. I doubt it'd be worth the trouble to make the display with the pieces I have, so now the question is whether or not to keep them or scrap them. Can you possibly give me a date range of any of them based on the pics?
