This is my LC, it's been soaking for years in olive oil, I switched to mineral oil a week ago.
Can any one read the date on this ? image.jpg

Arrived and has been used. Found a 1910 penny and a bunch of junk in my first hour.

You need to add a "before" picture so we can appreciate exactly what the olive oil has done, as far as cleaning it up.

Glad your LC is in better shape and has a readable date. Thanks for trying to read it. I've been squinting at it, Turing it around, tilting it, etc. what ever the date is will remain a mystery! It is my oldest dug coin, so far.

I had no idea OO can do such wonders. Why OO and not other organic oils?
Also, ya'll have more patience than I do.
Thanks, great pics.

well I cleaned this with baking soda to start out but didn't want to remove all details. So then in went into olive oil for quite a long time.
Why OO? I have no idea but read about TH'ers using it on copper coins, long time ago now. Thanks!

Have you tried the flashlight from the side angle trick?

Someone once told me that if you put a little milk or cream on the coin you may be able to make out a date a little easier with the contrast of white to coin metal.
