Hi Folks; I was in a bad way but I'm back on again ok. ---

I just got home from the hospital. I was paralyzed from my waist down and they could not get the nerves to regenerate. It took a whole team of Specialists to finally get the nerves to work again. Then I had to relearn how to walk again. My legs just would not go the right way. I'm still working on it but at least I'm standing and walking short distances. I walk like a drunken sailor. Anyway, I'm glad to be back. They said it will take one to two months for me to walk normally again but I'll take it over the alternatives any day. I'm to stubborn to lay down. My doctor said "it's the first time in his life he has ever heard of Satan being stumped.!!! Satan wasn't counting on a stubborn Irishman. In my case he chose a lulu.!!! Anyway, I'll be back on. I hope you guys have all been making some great finds out there. Until later; PEACE:RONB

Know first hand that if you have the will, it can be done.

I remember when they brought my Dad home from the hospital after contacting Polio, and they said he'd never walk again...

He worked daily to rehabilitate himself...first using a walker, then crutches, then canes and eventually he walked...

Sure. He had a bad limp but after 2 years he walked...

He just didn't give up.....mental attitude...

you can do this and don't worry about walking like a drunk, I still do and the more worn out I get, the worse I get, in fact I was once told that I needed to lay off the sauce so I had to explain why I walked that way. it is what it is and it ain't what it ain't. just don't get too carried away too soon and get better.

I always wonder if I could go on after a tragic incident. Becoming blind...loosing a leg(s)... Yet I see it everyday. People adjusting and concurring a handicap! My hat comes off to those valiant souls that CAN! Terry

Well, surviving 3 back operations and getting over a lens replacement, I kind of feel your pain and know the joy of pulling yourself back. Just take it easy, but keep the improvement progressive.
Best of luck, Frank...-

Barker, I'm not familiar with your posts, may have seen a few of the older ones. Anyway, I'll remember you in my prayers!
A story: One of my wife's uncles was on top of a truck that grinds feed/grain one Sunday morning all by himself. He slipped into the hopper and had both legs torn/shredded badly before he was able to 'boost' himself up and out of the hopper. He then slid down the side of the truck and was leaning against one of the back wheels when someone heard him yelling for help. After a long hospital stay and several surgeries, he was sent home in a wheelchair. One leg still had the knee joint and the other one about 1/3 of the thigh was gone. After several months, he got some 'artificial' legs. They looked almost like real ones. He used crutches for a long time, then started using canes. The last time I saw him, alive, he was walking without canes! He said he had fallen a few times; but it was better than uses 'those darn canes'.
On more story: A very close friend of mine, quite a bit older than I, was in WWII. He spent over 3 years in Japanese concentration camps. Both legs froze so badly that he was told that would never walk again. But he did! He said it took him over 5 years to get out of the wheelchair that he had been 'living in'. I knew him the last 10 or 12 years of his life. He went anywhere he pleased, drove his car, lived by himself, and was my mother-in-law's boyfriend! lol He was a fishing guide on Lake Whitney, Texas for several years.
