Felicia , I would recommend that you click on Forum (top left of this page ) and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the listings
you'll see one that is divided into member locations by state - click on Penn. start looking through the discussions , you'll likely find
some good information . Welcome to T-net !!!

Short answer is yes, :icon_scratch:seek permission for State and Fed parks... ??? Public parks are generally fair game. Still won't hurt to ask local authorities :dontknow:

What ever you do don't dig in the National Parks in PA. I got a warning ticket and the funniest part was I got it for "Possession of Metal Detector"

The guys from the east found all the really good banner finds already (lol). But for the most part I think PA is a very friendly MD state. A lot of history and many old locations to hunt if you do some research. Heck, most yards are killer spots, due to the history here. (HINT: if your looking at the eastern side of the state, hunt bed and breakfasts (with permission). haha.....a guy from out there just had a killer banner find at one.

State parks are pretty much a no no...but zillions of other places to hunt.

Sounds like you were at Gettysburg National Park. Bringing a metal detector into a battlefield is a serious no-no. You're lucky they didn't confiscate it.

PA is one of the more friendly metal detecting states. By the way, I have detected in several state parks. The Wolf Run Cache was found in a state park. Frank...- five star.png

Research is the key. MANY old picnic areas and "fair" sites to locate.

Of course I'm not that much of a rookie:laughing7: I was apparently in the Delaware National Park
