It all started when a classmate of mine told me she'd bought her grandson some inexpensive civil war relics she'd found on eBay. They were being offered by a treasure hunter who had found them with his metal detector.

And I thought, what a great idea! We all have boxes or jars or buckets full of stuff we've dug that may not be worth anything to us, but just might be considered fun and exciting to non-treasure hunters.

So I did a little research, and what I found might surprise you. I will tell you this much: It didn't turn out quite the way I thought it would. For the rest, just listen to the show. (It's short - about 3 1/2 minutes).

P.S. The photo is of an assortment of metal detector finds that sold recently on eBay, all as one package. I discuss it in the show. Listen at In the Corner with Dan Hughes.

You finally figured out what a lot of us have known and been doing for years, buying on ebay and reselling somewhere else, sometimes for 1,2, or even 300% profit. Unless you have something extremely rare or desirable or hyped, "ebay is a buyer's market."

Yeah, I learned the hard way, listed some sterling silver jewelry on ebay, and it sold for less than melt value. Haven't listed anything since.
