Cool find.

How much would someone have to find, in order for the government to order a dig, John?
Surely that field would merit a search in a museums eyes? Is there a criteria that you know of?

I guess it would all depend on the significance of the find. A ring like this wouldn't warrant the attention of the authorities ... and they don't have the resources anyway. The detectorist usually goes back and does a a comprehensive search. If a lot of other treasure was then found, then that would be different ...

The find is out of context so the government/archaeology department don't give a $hit, but you still got to hand it in/ declare the find.
