I don't wear mine, my detectors don't have a volume control. when the wife and I don't have ours in, there can be moments of what some call miss-communication! the good thing is I can still hear somewhat without them, especially with headsets. this is a great article for more people out there than may want to admit

Is this advice generally useful for American detectorists?
Can't be absolutely sure that hearing aids are the same worldwide?

my hearing aids are in ear and I would be more concerned about over amplified noise making my hearing loss worse, so I don't wear them while detecting, my hearing aid specialist warned me about excessive noise
