People who think drones are evil and their only purpose is to spy on people are fooling themselves. They fear what they do not understand. Same thing happened when Elvis started putting music out. And if you make claims about drones spying on you, where are the photos of this going down? Cameras are on every phone, so....

If someone were to shoot down my drone being operated in a legal manner, they would be facing a lawsuit. You do not own the airspace, nor do you have the legal right to destroy other people's property simply because you fear a new technology.

I'm sorry, but if you fly your drone over my land, its gonna get some birdshot. Your drone is no different than you standing on a garbage can peeking into my windows.

You DO NOT own all the air space over your property.

If a drone - or any model plane - is menacing my home or livestock it is fair game if over my property whether the FAA (who will probably be stepping in on drone policy pretty soon) likes it or not.

If you're flying at a safe height I couldn't hit anyway you so that shouldn't matter. I fly R/C gliders and hand-launch them in a neighbor's field (and a little one I fly in my own tree-surrounded pasture). If I lost control of one and it was coming in hot towards his house I'd apologize if he felt the need to "shoot it down" because I would never willfully threaten anyone with a glider.

Please give us the legal definition under the law of "nuisance pilot". Just making up stuff as you go along won't serve you well, know the law! You do not own the airspace over your property.

What Bandit and MYSELF are saying... Is this period. If you fly over our homes (legal airspace be damned) then YOU will have to do something if you feel the need BECAUSE we don't give a damn if it's legal to shoot it down or not. It will come down. You better have a real good camera on it that zooms in to me while I zoom in on it through my scope. Once I have it, it will just go into a bag for the next garbage run.

And we wouldn't have to call the Sheriff for such a minor problem coming from a drone or toy. Hell by the time they'd show up I'd be making the garbage run. Unlike you we'll take of our problems near our homes without bothering others with our problems.

I'll double dog dare ya to fly one here near by my home... As soon as you launch it (maybe before) call the Sheriff if you think you need them. We don't need'em.

Don't get me wrong, I do not condone flying over people or their property as it is an unsafe practice and against the AMA rules.

gotta chime in...my wife and I go beach hunting a couple times a year.usually in winter,but heck,its nice to get off the mountain.Last winter we were hunting a rocky area of a smallish cove..A drone came within about 8 feet of me,hovering.I looked on the bluff and saw the pilot..I flipped him off and chucked a rock at it.
He flew it straight at my wife and she fell in the rocks avoiding it.Now its on.I dropped my equipment checked on my wife and took off after the idiot.

Long story shorter.Caught him at his car.destroyed the stupid toy and went off on the fool.Cop heard us and rode up on a bike.After my wife showed up with our detectors,limping,he talked to her then came and uncuffed me.End result was we didnt press assault charges on him and the officer told him to leave while he could.When he pulled away his cell phone fell off his car,we couldnt stop laughing.Accidentally drove over it...

LMAO... as it should be. Some guys just don't get that they don't have the MORAL right to step on other peoples toes regardless of whether or not there's a law against it. This is not directed towards wecoyote in any way. He seems to "get it". Not going to name names but there is one individual here who has a pattern of thinking that he has the right to not only do whatever the hell he wants to do but he also has the right to force his way of thinking on the rest of us. This is certainly not the first time myself & others have bumped heads with him and it likely won't be the last... Personally I think the guy just likes to argue. He should have a cute little aligator cartoon for his avatar & change his name to Insti-Gator... His behavior reminds me of a guy who used to hang out on a popular firearms forum I belong to until he finally got banned for life. He would ALWAYS choose a thread and then take an opposing viewpoint to whatever the majority opinion happened to be & then argue his point for days on end. Come to find out he was a lawyer from Texas and was purposely doing it just for sport and for the practice. I've often wondered what the guy on here does for a living... The pattern of behavior is similar.

A private nuisance is an interference with a person's enjoyment and use of his land. The law recognizes that land owners, or those in rightful possession of land, have the right to the unimpaired condition of the property and to reasonable comfort and convenience in its occupation.

I believe a drone in the face - though not mentioned - is uncomfortable and inconvenient to most landowners.

I am uncomfortable being overflown by amateurs piloting drones. If you prefer I could disrupt operations at the transmitter end but, unless you were standing on my land that might not go my way. Though a nice, friendly handshake at greeting you might make the yaw and pitch a little squirrely for a few seconds.

Now you show me the law that states I can't shoot a drone that is overflying my property.

I don't think anyone is seeing that these drones might actually be helpful in some way to our hobby if used properly. Safely and with permission and so on. We could use them ourselves to get a birds eye view of a potential hunting area that reveals something that we might not see from the ground.

It's unfortunate but just like all fun hobbies the idiots are going to get it heavily regulated because of stunts the op mentioned. Crashing one on the whitehouse's lawn or flying one at 40mph 5' over someone's head is gonna start getting regulatory eyes on the hobby.

I should have mentioned that I fly rc sailplanes for many years.I have NO generic problem with these rc drones...only the few rude fools making the rest look bad.rc aircraft are a blast and I may even end up owning a quadcopter drone.

Certainly drones can be useful. Archaeologists have used them to do aerial surveys of sites. Lost people have been located in cornfields. All with permission.

I have the little Estes drone (2" wide) I fly indoors and a little Heli-Max 1SQ (6" wide) that is indoor/outdoor and has a sort-of video (2GB, but anything over 20 second as a burst video "locks up"). Lots of fun - but I keep it in my own yard. I fly R/C from little park fliers to 85" wingspan float-planes. Carefully and with permission, and never over people or their homes.

Beg to differ... Check your legal sources on all the new laws & ordinances regarding peeping and filming in public (my opinion = most 99% ridiculous) The first thing out of my face would be they were buzzing me with it & I was in fear for my life and of bodily harm. That & a handful of pics of RC prop eaten fingers, there goes your case.

Check the after holiday sales. Some pretty impressive looking drones out there for under $150!!! Yup, had to be escorted out of the department! My drooling over them was making a safety issue.

Then there's the "Well honey, I went to buy a $5 HDMI cable but decided we really couldn't do without one of these" thing.............

I fly RC airplanes, helicopters and multi-rotors. Have been doing it for a LONG time.
I and MOST RC pilots fly according to the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) rules and specifications. I am a club member and current president of my club (MID-VA Radio Control Club)
Yes, there are rogue pilots that don't know the proper rules of flight or just don't care just as there are detectorists that hunt on illeagle land and don't fill there holes.
These rogue pilots are giving my RC hobby a bad reputation and the FAA is making it hard for us to enjoy our hobby with their current proposed regulations (because of these occurrences).

Please don't think ALL of us are "out to get ya". Those cheap multi-rotors with cameras can be purchased by anyone and novices don't know how to handle them. AMA is currently working on a "Educate, don't regulate" campaign to make people aware that there are places to go to get proper training and guidance to fly their new toy.

I learned to fly at Vincennes University in southern Indiana in the early 90's. At the time, the AMA had their national championships, or something, there annually. They'd set up on one of the two runways for the weekend, a pretty big group. I checked them out both years I was there, some really awesome stuff. Anyway, I was landing with the head of the flight school in the plane with me, and some bozo buzzed us at about I'd say 400 feet. I thought Mr. Marquez was going to bust an artery he was so pissed. He was a crotchety old ex-Air Force jock. He got on the radio and had some choice words to say.

I've always thought about getting into the RC hobby, I've watched them fly many times. I've got my eye on a helicopter right now, and I'll probably get a drone soon.
