K-Man,

Anyplace that you can document human activity is a good place to hunt - modern or old.

I would say that a slaughterhouse from the 1800 may be a better place than you think. Sometimes the slaughterhouse was somewhat of a community meeting place where neighbors would bring their animals to be slaughtered and butchered. This may have involved the exchange of money. Sometimes the slaughterhouse was a social sort of gathering place. Bunch of guys killing stuff. In this situation, they might lose items from their pockets either by putting their hands in and out of them or from a small hole in them. So in this type place, you never know what you will find.

As far as the house area goes, again any human occupation will result in the loss of things. Some are good most are not.

I would say take advantage of the place and give it a good going over. Use the best coil you have and search as deep as you can.

Good luck finding family treasures.
