Jeff, I have yet to use it, but Hiren's Boot CD gets one heck of a lot of accolades for hard drive maintenance and recovery.

Download Hiren's Boot CD 15.2 (Free) for Windows

Have all of your diagnostic tools and other programs under one roof with Hiren's Boot CD.

Your computer features a lot of different programs and applications from different software companies and individuals. And it takes time especially when reformatting your computer and reinstalling these programs because they came from different places.

Hiren's Boot CD is a boot CD that features a vast array of tools and software like partitioning programs, data recovery tools, BIOS tools, system benchmarks, antivirus programs, malware and spyware programs, disk cloning and imaging tools and many more.

My Nephew is a Computer Tech, And will definitely get me through this.

At this point I'm up & running with only a few Bog downs since.
I don't think my Fan is running
it is too complicated for me to remove the plate & look,
but I only hear a very light hum with my ear against the tower.
I think My fan was a bit noisy.

Anyway My nephew is supposed to stop up tomorrow If I still need him.
I told him to Call first now that I'm back online.
At this point because of weather I'm hoping I can last till better conditions.

as it is I'm snowed in for the last 2 weeks
& another storm expected tomorrow and Frigid temps predicted till forever :dontknow: ? will probably have me stranded till spring

If either your power supply fan or the CPU fan quit working I'd be concerned. Overheating, without a dead failure of either, would tend to cause miscellaneous issues and problems, aggravations. Without disassembling anything, can you slide your PC out and shine a light into the power supply fan cage and at least see if that's running? That might give you some peace of mind. You can't always hear the good ones, a lot of evolutions to fans have occurred over the years trying to silence them for the gentle population. I can't hear mine right now. I'd certainly play it cool till your nephew had a say. Now's certainly time to be proactive instead of just waiting for a PC to die. They said desktops and towers will disappear because of the rise of tablets and better laptops.

Me, I'm old school! I want a box!

I just started having issues with mine......broken or corrupted paths from various programs to my pictures and documents, either when trying to save or open. The blasted thing just freezes sometimes while trying to effect the command. Not even close to capacity so I'm not sure what's going on? ##@*&%$#!!!

every time I would move my mouse to do something the screen froze, Boxes popped up,
and everything flashed like I had some major Virus or Power problem.

Now occasionally I'm back to stalls in speed occasionally.

sort of reminds me of TreasureNet when they are running their doohikies in the morning
and I have to wait & wait till they are done.
But being it was on all sites And then the temporary Crash.

It's got to be here

Yes on the rear TOP BACK of tower...
Put your hand back there and feel if you feel a breeze/airflow.

How often do you defragment your hard drive? You need to do that every several weeks. You can set it on automatic if you tend to leave it on overnight. Mine stays on 24/7. Presuming you're on the PC platform, defrag comes included with Windows. I don't know anything about Windows 8 and beyond, so I can't recommend anything there.

If this check is ok with obvious airflow... tis not the power supply fan...
If you remove side panel of tower and take a flashlight and look at fan on CPU...
tis the only fan inside that is "part" of the main board/motherboard.
It should also be running... if not... or making noise... this needs to be replaced asap.
Any fan out needs replace asap as far as that goes.

That won't always tell you what you wish to know. My tower, right now, the fan isn't running. Normally the modern intelligent power supplies only run the fan when the PC hits a a certain temperature.

Now knowing Jeff, he probably has a killer box with one heck of a video card which may very well have a fan or two on it :)

Then power supply fan is gone... and failure in inedible... be it moments or hours from now...
And your power supply is currently cooking...
You must replace fan immediately... or risk replacing entire power supply....
Do you have an old computer laying around ?
