Received new detector yesterday and was hoping the supposed 45 degree weather would make today somewhat bearable..wow was I wrong. Woke up to 23 degrees not counting windchill but going to tough it so I can test out the machine. We get to the hunting grounds and the detector works fine but the shovels don't..ground was frozen solid. Guys I was with were pogoing on their shovels so time to pack it in. Who else is having same issues? I hate not being able to get out and do some digging especially when I get a new machine in hand.

Our ground is concrete from November through at least March. When it starts to thaw, the first places i hit are usually school grounds, where all the coins and trinkets lost in the snow all winter are lying on top of the ground. The paths where kids walk from the school to the playgrounds are good, as are areas where snow from sidewalks has been piled. Once there is bare ground, the first places to thaw are southern facing slopes, which may be diggable when flat surfaces are still frozen solid.

23°F? Sounds good. We could use those extra 20 degrees hereabouts.

I'd rather fall and hit my head on asphalt than the concrete dirt..that's if you could see it under the three feet of snow covering it :laughing7:
Though with weather statements like this I doubt it will thaw anytime soon.
