Why would anyone do business with a place named Alibaba!! Didn't we all read or hear Alibaba and the 40 Thieves as kinds?!? :icon_scratch::laughing7:

Ron,

Alibaba is the modern silk highway. Anything you can imagine from Chinese manufacturers. Nothing wrong with Alibaba.com. There are tons of things from China that aren't knockoffs or counterfeit. The Chinese are doing now what Japan did in the 1950s and 1960s. America makes something that is well built, rugged, and works. They buy one, reverse engineer it, then manufacture copies of it made from cheaper materials, smaller gauge wires, etc. Sometimes they put the technology in a different wrapper, and sometimes they just make knockoffs of the original. Some are so good its almost impossible to tell.

Its like buying tools at Harbor Freight. If you work with those tools every day, they will fail you. If you just keep tools around for occasional use, then you can't beat them.

You make some good points Mike. As long as what they "reverse engineer" has a new name and it not being passed off as the original item.

Hello RustyGold,

I try to buy from a dealer, sometimes though EBay has a good deal, but you have to be careful. If I see a detector priced to good to be true, I run the other way!

Regards,

There is some legit dealers out there. But I only buy from one guy. If he doesn't have it, I don't need it. Evan at Bart's Big Boys Toys. I remember starting out in the hobby. Used was all I could afford. I had no clue what I was looking at. But came to know I was going to spend my money on others things that don't last, so save and buy new when I can. My friends have found some gems of a deal buying used. But that's not for me.

Yeah it blows my mind that people can't understand profit margins. There's a very similar profit margin set for everything. Does anybody really believe that someone is going to lose money on something. Teknetics has had big problems with this. Save your pennies until you can buy one at the same price the rest of us paid. Take the risk out of it completely. Be loyal to the dealer that's treated you well and get your stuff from them every time. I'm a builder and I just laugh when some home owner says " well Joe Blow said he could do it for $8000 less than you". Oh you mean the guy driving the 1984 Escort? The guy with no insurance? The guy living at the cheap hotel that nobody has ever heard of? There ya go give him your money and then you can call me when he either gets his money and walks or destroys your home. Then you can call me again, pay me to tear out of all his crap and then start over. How'd that work out for ya? I go through this on a daily basis. It used to bother me but now I just laugh. Trust me guys loyalty and trust are worth a whole lot these days. Trust the people that are legit and will be there if something goes wrong. Not the guys that you call the number and their phones been disconnected lol.

Funny Ahab. I just opted for the winter upgrade on my F75. Do you think they made money by the time they pay for shipping both ways, new parts, and the freebies? I deal with big brand names. Even then sometimes things go wrong. But I know they will take care of it.

My favorite, a fake Ace 250. It looks fine until you look at it more carefully.

Yeah I'm upgraded my T2 SE. I think I'm going to keep my F75 with the original software. They can be making a whole lot but it's awesome that they care enough to listen to the complaints and upgraded these machines that were kier to begin with. Says a lot about First Texas. And they have been awesome with the customer service in my experience. I use a local lumber yard in town. Sometimes I pay a little more for certain things. But if I have an issue or if I need a delivery in a hurry they are right there. If I went to Home Depot for certain things or Lowes for others because it saved me a couple bucks I would lose that good relationship. And guess what...Home Depot and Lowes care zero about Lil Ahab lol

Yes I know about home despot and Lowes. I considered leaving my F75 as it already did a great job. I hope it doesn't loose much with the upgrade. First Texas gave everyone a Christmas present with the upgrade. Don't see anyone else doing that. The T2 is awesome all my friends have them.
