Archive.org helped me find out my house is 50 years older than the deed said based on old maps.

I would start, as I pretty much always do with a Google search for the city and county the land is located in. Then I would check to see if the state has an online historical library and whether these had old plat maps or pictures of the area. Another fantastic source of information can be the property's actual deed, which may list every owner of the house and land.

Go to the courthouse and do a title search. Those folks are usually pretty good about helping with something like that.
