All this guitar/Ozzy talk and nobody mentions Zakk Wylde??

Phenomenal guitarist...
And only guy who could "pull off" and continue Ozzy on in my opinion...
Perfect fit for Oz... and heck of an entertainer.

RR and OZ ... it is the songs written... the 2 albums together.
And those 2 albums... ARE BAR NONE... true art/magic...
And his very short ten year career.

Very hard for Zack to "fill" those shoes...
I have never listened to him as far as solo stuff.

The greats in my book are Page, Hendrix, and Iommi. All the others reference them as influencing their styles. In my opinion, some of the best guitarists now are Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Janick Gers of Iron Maiden.

You need to. Listen to all of it, Black Label Society, Pride and Glory.

Randy Rhoads was a phenomenal guitarist, leagues above Wylde, Page and Hendrix. Most don't know he taught music in his home studio and had musical talents well beyond what was written with Ozzy.

The brief time he spent with Ozzy was a drop in the bucket of his musical genius. I knew he could shred a guitar with the best of them but I never realized how talented he actually was until I watched a biography on his life.

He had something most rockstars don't, a true understanding of musical theory, sadly he's only remembered for the few years he spent with Ozzy.

Another Randy Rhoads factoid most don't know... he started the band Quiet Riot.

And again...
"RR and OZ ... it is the songs written... the 2 albums together.
And those 2 albums... ARE BAR NONE... true art/magic...
As well as his very short ten year career."

I think Nugs and I feel the same way on this.

Well don't forget old EC. He turns 70 in a few days.

How to tell a great from a good player. A great can do it without making it look hard at all. You see those that are making all kinds of faces, contorting their bodies, flailing around, playing a guitar like it's so hard to do. They may be good.

The ones that can walk out there and rip you a new one and barely move, those are the greats. The guitar is part of them, it flows from the body to the instrument. It's second nature to them.

Old Mr. Clapton is one of those. He doesn't look like he's having an epileptic fit while playing, he goes out, shreds some licks, and walks off. Take a look at a video of the live version of Crossroads, all that coming out of a guitar and him just standing there.
