I am looking to pick up my first metal detector. I am mainly wanting to find old coins and what not but I don't mind finding random things (and junk) either. I am looking at the Bounty Hunter Tracker 4 which was suggested to me its about $140 and I also saw the prospector which I can get for $80 but I am not sure if that one is to simple to be usable. I am not in love with the brand so I am open to any suggestion.

Thanks!

the prospector is no good it will find things but the discrimination is worthless and it gave me lots of erradic signals its pretty tough though I threw it at a few trees from about 10 feet away and it still was beeping but i ended up putting it in the scrap metal pile and buying an at pro the only good thing about it was it got me hooked on detecting

Discrimination no good !!!!

Anyone experienced who uses a MD should know not to rely on a so called discriminator effect to decide whether to dig or move on:laughing7:... this fallacy has probably left more valuable items in the ground waiting for the next MD user to search on all metal mode and collect on a so called already searched site.:laughing7:
(must sneak this into this thread)... Sent dialogue on myths about detectors BUT MYSTERIOUSLY NEVER DID APPEAR ON THIS FORUM

some spots you just have to discriminate, I can't be digging up the whole park, literally.... I Would suggest a Garrett Ace 250 or 350 or a F2 or a tesoro compadre for a good beginner detector at an affordable price.

The Tesoro compadre for $160.00 is a Great detector and will find you lots of treasure. I love mine.

I agree with the above choices.
