I metal detect a field four hundred yards from where I live and have pulled up nigh 400 grape shot balls 4 diff sizes tryin to find out what they are there for and why, any help would be gratefully accepted

If they are related to the Civil War, the link below should help and is provided courtesy of TheCannonballGuy who I believe co-authored the information! If you have found that many in the field, then there was apparently a fairly large battle. The grape shot was used in canister loads to inflict massive damage and casualties to the enemy.
