My guess would be it's a hand from a monkey and the map shows where they buried the monkey.

Could have been a novelty item. Since it's from the Tampa area, Jose Gaspar was a pirate, we still celebrate Gasparilla Days.
Pieces of 8, pirate hand, and a map, probably sold by some shyster.

Pirates used to kill the guys they had dig the hole for the treasure chest and put the bodies in the hole on top of it to guard it and so they couldn't tell where it was buried.
So if there's a hand and a map wouldn't that indicate the treasure had already been found?

This was part of a NCIS show a while back. Map and a cut off hand with a ring, hidden in a bank box, leading to treasure. If I remember correctly it was a Civil War arms stash.
