My coin dealer's change...

I always pay with credit card but today paid with $5 cash just for the heck of it after getting a glance of some buffalo nickels in the tray.

Anyways, Here's the change for the $5. I got 6 buffalo nickels, 1920, 1925, 1928, 1935, 1937, dateless. I also got two Gem UNC 1983 Quarters and a star note.

Sorry no photos at the moment though I will try to get some up.

You think maybe he does this as a gimmick,sales promotion or just for fun...after all he is a coin dealer.Sounds like a fun thing to do with excess overstock to distribute to his coin luvin customers.

I always pay with cash now.
Couple years back, I bought a few fillers from my favorite dealer. He didn't have readily available cents or nickels. In change I received ms 1960s cents and a war nickel.

Enlightened self interest. He puts things out in the local economy that might generate some interest among folks to get further into collecting.

A few years back I was at south shore Lake Tahoe and went to the coin store there, after purchasing something he gave me change and all the pennies were older wheat cents. I thought that was pretty cool! Good Luck!

In my case it backfired. The only public that viewed my change was me n my collection.

He told me that these coins are either too worn or not fit in some other way for him to sell so he just spends them. He buys hundreds of buffalo nickels in bulk, he probably will sell the good ones and just sell any culls.

Actual it would be more around $10 in it's condition as I found out. Apparently in BU it is a key date.

It would have to be a certified coin NGC, PCGS The grading fee's cost way more than the coin is worth

Nah. I don't allow any added value for a slabbed coin. But it does assure a good opinion on grade for doing business sight-unseen (like on auction sites).
