We have all heard the saying "one mans trash is another mans treasure"...
So then what exactly IS treasure ?

Based on this old curmudgeon...
The definition of treasure would be "what someones considers it to be"...
So...
If a used tire guy runs across a pile of used tires that has been thrown out by a new tire store as trash...
Is this is considered his treasure ?

But what "is" treasure...
Anything of value to someone ?
Something rare or hard to find...
OR
Just anything that is valuable... but to who ?
Everyone...
Or just some ?
If only valued by some... or a few... is it still "treasure" ?

I am oldschool myself...
Gold and Silver are treasure...
Money is money.
And things/stuff is just that... stuff.

Value of things seem to come from the demand of them.
The scarcity of them...

Would finding a violin worth of thousands be "treasure"... or a valuable find ?
What if it were a 6 million dollar Stradivarius ?

What say you crew ?

Puffy clouds in a light blue sky, a pretty lady, a kids smile, a cool breeze on a warm day, those are some real treasures and all the lost loot we can recover just makes it all even better.

My treasure is the memories I have of my wife of 29 years before her alzhiemers and the few brief moments of clarity she has at times. The pictures of my children and their children and their childrens children.

Yes my treasure is my family. Then all this other stuff we find is stuff that we can sell to make us happy.

For me treasure is loading up the truck and exploring the wilderness, searching for treasures is treasure, eating beans, sleeping in a tent and building camp fires with family and friends is treasure. Scaring the poop out of one of your hunting partners; priceless...

I assume you mean things we find while detecting or the list would be endless.
1- Things with a high monetary value like gold, silver, gems to name a few.
2- Things that strike my fancy and I want to retain.
That about sums it up. IMG_8928-700.jpg Now to Blue, it could be a bone. LOL Frank

“All that glitters is not gold;
Often have you heard that told:
Many a man his life has sold
But my outside to behold:
Gilded tombs do worms enfold
Had you been as wise as bold,
Your in limbs, in judgment old,
Your answer had not been in'scroll'd
Fare you well: your suit is cold.' Cold, indeed, and labour lost: Then, farewell, heat and welcome, frost!”

William Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice

Wow AARC... I was going to go with something like Barber coins, large cents or a gold ring, however, after reading the other answers, I'm fairly sure I don't understand the question.

"Keepers" that I find detecting, and that varies greatly, are treasures to me... yet I don't "treasure" them, per se...
The time I spend with my wife, just the two of us...THAT is what I treasure.

What is treasure? Who's to say? When I found the other half of my CS buckle, I thought that was treasure. Perhaps it is, but the real treasure was the find, not the object. Living in a country where we are free to pursue our passion and live our lives the way we choose and express our self's as we choose ( to an extent ) that's our real treasure. Thank everyone you can who's made it possible!!

Treasure can be what you did not think it would be. It can be what you never find. Or you find you had all along ,once.
Some conventional treasures I would trade for things that might mean little to some one else.
In treasure hunting it can be something you would not ordinarily be able to acquire any other way, but should be something you basically would covet to inspire trying to recover it..A gem, a coin, or even a box of twinkies. Or a truckload of each.
Or a minutes peace to the right soul.

A real treasure is an old dog with white whiskers, staggering up to you wagging his tail, while trying to muster up a decent bark...I can feel a real connection with him:wink:

Well I'm not going as deep as some above.... I'm sticking to the material treasure theme.

A handful of old iron horseshoes and more gold coins than the other hand can hold.
