Years ago I found a shell in a soccer field that belonged to a sports and gym place. I was with a small group of other kids and I looked down and it was just there and it looked old.

I'm talking about the one on the left in this picture and not the fossil on the right (found at the beach).
I'm not sure why it was in that field and I have wondered if it's left over from some native Americans long ago or I got very lucky and found a fossil but that would be very odd in that area. I'm not putting this in the what is it forum because I know it's a shell but its an odd find none the less.
Let me know what you think because I would like any kind of answer or ideas.

It most likely came from the area where the fill was taken from.

That makes sense indeed but I'm not sure if fill was used in that area. There is a small stream near the field and that makes me wonder. I forgot to mention that if you walk down one of the paths in the woods there are ruins of an old house.
