What's your best road find?

Being a treasure hunter, you know that treasure is where you find it, and many valuables are laying on the roads. I've found a wallet(returned), many tools, a working cell phone I wish I would have just ran over after seeing the gratitude of the owner when I returned it. I once saw a Stihl concrete saw laying in the road, but being in a large truck at the time I was unable to retrieve it. Just putting this out there, because there is treasure on the roads. You just have to turn on your discriminator to discern against the junk, and yes I have investigated many UOs just to find they were junk, but not always.

Was behind a guy once when a spaceheater fell off back of his truck. I stopped and got it and chased him for 5 miles. Blinking lights, blowing horn, and waving like crazy. He just kept looking at me in mirror like I was nuts. I still have that heater. I guess he figured it out when he got where he was going.

I found a 1987 rolex sub mariner at the side of the road heading home from a less than great hunt.It was pretty mangled.I took it to a repair center and found I couldnt afford to have it fixed. The guy offered me $650.00 for the salvagable parts and I took it.up untill then it was my most valuable find

I hit a deer one time and didn't mangle it at all.
Had venison for 6 months.

Unreal it was,,, I was fully expecting to see monstrous damage to my Jeep and there wasn't nary a scratch.

Any road kill is fine, either hair on or off.

Just don't like tire tread tenderizers though.

Preference is yearling Angus...

Left plenty of wildlife lying on the side of the road, but I didn't hit em. Best find was a wallet, no ID, $300 inside.

My ex wife! Oh wait...I did'nt find her there...I left her there! :laughing7:

I once saw a squirrel hopping across a small side street...slow speed limit. I followed him with my eyes and I'll be damned if he didn't jump right over $416 rolled up with a rubber band. If it was not for that squirrel I would have drove right past it.

Drove about a mile to the corner market and bought a bag of peanuts and sure enough he was still there near a tree. Gently tossed enough out the window to make his winter hiding hole full. Never forget that little sucker....hope he lived a long life.

Actually, a few things come to mind... 25 years ago I found a diamond, lost from a ring at a car wash..it was appraised at $1500....had it set as an engagement ring to my first wife...when I finally divorced her, she flushed the ring down the toilet.:BangHead:

Then there was the time that my Grandmother saw me pick up a wallet that a guy dropped in the parking lot, had like $800 or so in it, I made a bee-line to the pro shop, gave it to the starter, who knew the guy, and it got returned.

And I cant help but mention the hundred dollar bill that I thought I found in Vegas, but it was actually an advertisement for an escort service.:laughing7: Wifey wouldn't let me keep it.

I found a Money Order for $397 dollars in the road when I was 12 years old.

That was pretty cool.

The most memorable thing that comes to mind is I was 10 hunting for beer bottles along the highway with my brother and we spotted a chewed up $10 bill laying there after the winter. We took it into the bank the following week and got ourselves 2 crisp $5 bills. I headed over to the sporting shop and bought a swim mask so I could look for coinage off the wharf.

A long time ago ,while driving a truck on a very busy street, I passed a house that someone was obviously cleaning out by the amount of "trash" at the curb. Sticking out of on of the garbage cans was several rifle or shotgun stocks. I was on my way to work, probably late, and could'nt find a good place to turn around. Also in those days it was a two lane street and if I would have stopped I would have caused a major traffic jam. These excuses I have been telling myself for probably 45 years and still want to back up to the arse kicking machine!

Not sure about the best, but interstates with the high speed may not be the best places because of the safety factor. Just saying if you stay alert, all that junk you see may not actually be junk. I guess I have my wife trained a little also. She picked up a gold bracelet in the Walmart parking lot not long ago.

I've never found anything on a road. Maybe I just drive too fast. There was a turtle once, but I just stopped and picked him up, carried him across the road and turned him loose.

Well, I didn't find it, but my husband found a brand new Chainsaw. Put an ad on Craig list for someone to indentify and come and get it. But nothing, so he has another chainsaw!

I found a real treasure chest! Well so I thought at the time, it ended up being a "fat" .50 cal ammo can lying in the road that was nearly full of pennies. Always assumed it fell off a truck as there was a big dent in the can. Grabbed it (heavy!), poked through it and then just left it in the garage for a couple of years. Then I needed some spending money for a Las Vegas trip so it was cashed in at Coinstar. $74.37 in clad pennies if I remember right. Best part was there were several wheaties in the reject pile which I kept. :treasurechest:
