Just keep going back to that spot or just drive the beach. Pretty sure your friend will show up eventually...

Lost opportunities suck, Hope your message gets to the person you are seeking. Several years ago when I was a lot more active in treasure hunting/coin shooting I picked up a box of blank business card sheets from the office supply and printed up a few hundred with my name and email address and the type of hunting I liked to do. Even created a nice color logo for it. Whenever I ran into someone else detecting or someone asking questions about the hobby, if I felt comfortable with them, I would give them one of my cards. Most you never hear from, but I did pick up a couple of local hunting buddies that way. They also help when out knocking on doors looking for new permissions. It promotes a more professional image.

Dusty do you have Facebook? If so look up "Rio grande valley metal detecting" I'm sure you'll find the guy on there.
