There seems to be a trend happening and it's entirely possible it's been going on forever and I'm just noticing it now. It seems that there is so many one post-new members that seem to have a one liner (where most have the quotes or sayings or beliefs under their reply posts) giving a link to their personal web page or something self promotional. I wonder if this goes on with other forums where folks just go from one to the other doing this? It's like the many that post up on the daily finds begging for everyone to subscribe to their video link of their finds and they say it's easier than posting a picture. I guess I'm just behind the times and don't get this.

I usually don't go to the videos either, mainly because I visit T-net from my phone most of the time and they eat up battery. I would rather read the post and look at the pictures were I can enlarge them and get a good look. When I want to see video, I use YouTube. Maybe we should have a specific fourm for video.
Woops..... I see we already have that.

I have seen some detecting videos that the camera cost more than the detecting equipment. The trend is to video your life instead of simply live in the moment. I am old school and rather live in the moment, take a few pics and write a post with a catchy subject line. Very seldom do I go to a video that is posted.

I'm a neanderthal when it comes to computers, have just enough skills to navigate around the web. So this is another of my swags that if you put enough with it you can get a cup of coffee at Starbucks. I'm under the impression that if you post a video that draws a crowd, then you can get money for the little ads that they stick on the video. And I'd also imagine that it would take a rather interesting video to draw a crowd. Most home made detecting videos leave a lot to be desired, especially the hat cam's that show everything but what the hit is, then when you do see it, it's a jittery momentary glance, that, or a rock solid shot of a guy scratching the heck out of a gold coin rubbing the dirt off with gloves.

I look at images but not videos. Life is too short to watch 15 minutes of bouncy chatter when a 15 second look at the finds is all I need.

I can say for sure that all forums deal with it. I used to admin a forum with 20,000+ members. Nothing compared to here but still a nice sized forum. We deleted multiple spam accounts like that daily. Back then it was Viagra and pills from Canada. Today it is whatever gets hits to a website that has ads in place.

As far as the video links...I'm guilty I guess. I have my Youtube channel in my sig. While I appreciate subscribers and views...nobody is obligated to do so and I certainly will not beg. Like metal detecting...videos are just a hobby for me.

I make my videos to share what I love....if people want to watch they do...if they don't they don't. There is a dedicated Video section and that is where I post my videos so I'm safe from the old farts who shake their fist at that new-fangled video technology. However, I would probably post a link outside of that Video section if I felt it was a great find or pertained to a certain sub-forum. If a video in "Todays Finds" was a video recorded "today"....I don't see the problem. If a member posts a video to a Garrett Review in the Garrett sub-forum...again I don't see the problem.

While I think spam and hit-and-run type "check my link out" posts should be removed and dealt with accordingly....I don't see the big deal over video links. Don't watch them if ya don't like them. Seems pretty elementary. I like watching video....I like still pictures...I like conversation. Seems like this forum has all 3...win win win.

As one of the "Old Farts", it is not that I don't like to watch videos, it is just that I am more inclined to read a post that has a good story about the find and pictures. If it is just a link to a video, I will pass it by.

I too have noticed an increase in these "Hit & Run" or "One Hit Wonders" who come on a forum and are gone! They make suspicious that they have an ulterior motive for joining up!

Yes it's a triple win when all three are posted up as it covers all the bases ( BTW the Jays are doing it this year :headbang:) thought I'd throw that one in there. :) Nothing wrong with the links on a member's page as you said it's up to the others to click on or not. There's that just don't go for the click bait away from the forum/or have the capability in a service provider to provide a high speed link.
Pills from Canada? Interesting I thought we had some of the highest meds in the western world, everybody goes to the States to buy. :)

No doubt we all have our preferences on how we want our content delivered. Just seems petty and a bit comical that some of the members here continuously remind people of the fact they do not like videos. This is a Treasure forum that DOES allow embedding and video posts. So not sure why the anti-video sentiment. I get it in this discussion...as that is what the OP brought to the table. But often it is just "look at ME and MY opinion" thread hi-jacking nonsense.....

Member X posts link with video about credible treasure hunting.....member Y posts "I don't watch videos".

Really? Move along then...don't watch...it seems so very simple. It does nothing to add to the conversation other than make member Y look petty and selfish. My opinion of course...not trying to start and argument or flame war here. Just what I've noticed on occasion. Definitely not the norm here and only a few veteran members seem to do it. I get it...they feel this is their home and intruders are not allowed. So be it.

As far as a new poster with 1 post and a video or website link is there....they absolutely have ulterior motives. Which is why they have no time to stick around. Post link...hope for hits...hit next forum/website. Rinse and repeat. Give those spamming jerks your wrath...not the guy who posts a video about REAL treasure content like recorded digs or detector reviews etc etc. Some people do like those videos....I know I do. :occasion14:

Yeah...for some reason it was always buy pills from Canada spam that forum dealt with. Not sure why. Some days 1-2..some days dozens would hit us. Made me have a stereotype on Canada for a while! :laughing7: (It didn't...j/k)

Finally got a filter installed that stopped 99% of it....but there is some that always slips through. Robots are pretty easy to deal with....nothing you can do about a human that creates an account and spams. :dontknow:

A member posted up a video of a hunt, lots of accolades for the finds and video, I stated it would be nice to see a picture and the member posted up the finds which if there was a BIG like button I'd hit. I believe that's stepping up to the plate and actually trying instead of just saying to the screen get with the times ol'fart. There's nothing wrong with the video portion of anyone's post it's certainly the sign of the times and it won't go away as it fills a need and liked by many. Nothing wrong with covering all the bases and many do and their posting are well received.

Now for the one hit wonders?

Used to get spammed to buy meds from the States when looking up drug costs for a condition and basically when the Specialists do push the button here for me to start taking the meds it's priced out at $60K a year. :(
