Yup, it's true.
Last Saturday evening, I attended a dinner hosted by the alumni of a long gone military school.
I've detected the site for two years now and presented the men with my finds encased in display cases.
After dinner, I gave a speech on my finds and metal detecting. All were fascinated with my equipment.
The finds too.
Mostly, they appreciated my time attending the event.
After my speech/display, I pack up my gear, shake hands and exit banquet hall.
One of the men approached me with a few more questions, then says "I want you to have this. We really appreciate what you've done and hands me a check for $1000!?
I protested to no avail. He/they wanted me to have the loot despite my objection.
It actually can pay to detect.
Thanks for the read...
Peace ✌

My display cases will be displayed with a newly created exhibit of the original uniforms, medals, school patches, awards, etc., in a community center. The community center now stands on the exact site. My finds have been dug from the surrounding woods that encompassed the school.
This said, if any of my trusted TNet members would like pics of the artifacts, I will txt or email pics. PM your info.
I do all my interactions on TNet from a "windows phone". I love the phone, but I've yet to be able to load a single pic to my threads? My apologies...
Peace ✌

Thanks all.
After the the dinner, I canvassed the room overhearing old school tales. One in particular caught my attention. In the 1920s, a fire broke out on the athletic field. To access this field, a steep, winding gravel road was and still is the only access.
Well, back then a fire truck attempted to decline the steep, curving gravel road to put out the fire. No such luck. The fire truck flipped and rolled down the ravine on which the gravel road was built upon and landed in a creek. A Fireman was killed.
I have detected this area and have found large unidentifiable iron targets, but normally avoid the area due to new trash.
But, I'm positive large brass objects will be the identifier to the location.
I'm familiar with many detectors, yet I've never searched for large brass.
Any ideas..?
Thanks
Peace ✌

Thanks again all!
During the q+a session after the dinner, one man told the story of the fire incident. I immediately noticed that it affected most in the audience. Please know, most I talked with were well aged, yet to young to remember the tragic event. Still all displayed reverence?
When I previously inquired of large brass, I truly mean large. Pounds of it. Like nozzle heads.
I do have a brass desk lamp that surely weighs a couple pounds, but I'd hate to bury it for info. ;)
After the reaction I viewed post "fire" story, I dared not ask relevant questions, other than general area.
I will continue my search...
Peace ✌
