Freeze report: snow cover and freeze depth by you?

Boots on the ground is always better than guessing.

Let's hear a report of the snow ground cover and how deep the ground is frozen by you. Even throw in a temp and pic if you're feeling ambitious.



As for NorthEastern NJ:

20 degrees, ground freeze 2-3", snow free except from shaded spots.

I'd say we maybe have 8-10 inches of hard pack snow on the ground, which is relatively little for us at this time of year. Not a clue how deep the ground is frozen underneath it, might have to google that. Just found the state frost monitoring site which says 35 inches.

It's 6:50 am here in VA, temp is 12, wind gusting 25, average 12 to15. Wind chill is -5
No snow and I don't know how deep the ground is froze. Supposed to last through tomorrow then snow. My mission today is to keep wood in stove and fix chilly
Probably spend a lot of time on t-net. Stay warm guys, springs comeing.

8am -1 degrees, wind chill -12 only 4-6 inches of snow on the ground, but I could dig last week!!!

Good thread. It's 12 degrees here in Southern Vermont, ground is still soft in places, thanks to an insulating 5" layer of snow and leaves. Fields are frozen, but the woods seem ok.

8 degree's, 10-20 below wind chill, no snow on the ground, freeze probably 4-5 inches. Typically here is 36" by now. Com'on Spring!!

Maryland. 6 inches left from the blizzard and 1" last night. Maybe 12 degrees with a 20 plus MPH wind, and getting colder tonight. Frozen probably no more than 12-15". Snow protected the ground some. I'll have three cats on the bed tonight. One is already there!

22 degrees here in Rhode Island. A good foot of snow on the ground. Haven't detected in 4 days, but the ground was soft with no frost last time I went. Snow is a little too deep right now to detect. Wears me out trudging through that much snow!

Eastern half of Connecticut, about half way up that side:

noon today at 20F....going to 6-belowF tonight. We have around 8" snow cover since a week ago on Friday.

Prior to that "8 days ago snow", we had no snow cover, woods were still soft, and a spell of warm temps and rains, had softened the top 3-4" of "open" areas, but ground was frozen below that.

This coming Tuesday is forecast at 49F and 43F Wednesday, but I can't see the snow getting down to hunting depth then. I think we are done here.

Currently -12 and average of about 15 cm snow. If say frozen layer wouldn't be to bad yet. Last Sunday before the snow the digging was great. Nothing a few hatchet hits wouldn't take care of to get to the soft ground underneath. Some warm weather and rain in the forecast coming though! This year is a million times better than last winter though! [emoji2]

Forgot to add that the last big snow storm was windy and made big drifts. So big spots will open up quick with the warm weather were the snow is only shallow. Rain and around plus 10 for Tuesday and Wednesday I believe! [emoji106]

Snow cover here in Summit County, CO--a** deep to a tall giraffe, and the frost line is 48". And for the actual in the field observation, snow ground cover is about 1-2 feet deep in the Blue River Valley, and will stay that way for a couple of months at least. I would say the ground is frozen a good 2 feet deep. The forecast says a high of 51 tomorrow, which is a topic of conversation around here. Not normal. I have seen 30 and 40 below temps this time of year before. Looks like it gets back to business as usual with more snow comin in later in the week.
