Help a newbie - Cobra Beach Magnet

    Hi All,

Finally got my Beach Magnet. I tried doing some tests out in my back yard so I could start getting a feel for it. I threw a gold ring down in the yard and started playing around to see if it could detect it. I practically had to turn the Trash knob off for it to pick up anything, then it seemed like it started going off everywhere.

Now I know this is a recently built house and a lot of times, the construction crew leaves all kinda of metal behind, buried under the lawn.

I am extremely new to this and just wondering, am I doing something wrong or did I just buy a cheap MD? I read Monty's review on it and though he did not glow about the Beach Magnet, I believe he said it was adequate. Will it work differently in the water? Do you think, since it was designed for underwater, it may only function properly underwater?

Any help or advice anyone has would be appreciated.

This unfortunately is a very low end detector. You are probably getting typical responses. I would , however , take it the intended are : the beach : and try it there. See what happens. I for one would love to know your actual results.

Yea, I know it is a low end detector but I need an underwater one and that is the best, cheapest one I can afford right now. I figure, at the very least, it should be a step up from those crappy $200 ones on Ebay. I will definately report back how it goes in the water. I am hoping much better.

Well that's yer trouble. Ya bought a magnet.

Gold, silver and copper ain't magnetic.
