I don't know what it is, but it's interesting. Post that in the What Is It forum. There's a whole lot of knowledge in there. Someone can help you identify it.

Hi; I looked at it very closely. It appears to be a part of a door handle / locking mechanism. That is my best guess. Maybe if you clean up the writing on it you will be able to provide us with more clues so we can help you better. Don't worry about damaging it. It is too fried to have any real value ok. Repost the pictures AFTER you have cleaned the dirt out of the lettering ok. PEACE:RONB
