extract gold from dust

I found some gold mixed with white sand. got it from a river. I added mercury with no success. panning is not a good methods as particles are light weighted than rest of the things. i heated and added sulfuric then gold particles shined. please can you tell me a way to separate gold from sand?

Hello Casper, and welcome to Tnet. You'd probably have much better luck with this question by posting in the Gold Prospecting Forum section.

However, this one is easy. If your "gold" is not adhering to the mercury, then it's not gold. Mercury has long been used as a means of retrieving the finest of gold. Then, the mercury would be burned off, leaving the gold behind. Nowdays that process involves a retort, which is a device that will capture the mercury fumes, then cool them back into normal form for re-use. Also keep in mind that mercury fumes are highly toxic! Even handling mercury with bare hands is frowned upon. ....In any case, if that was mercury you were using and the gold-colored stuff is still there, then it's not gold. Sorry.

Yup, if it's not being picked up by the mercury it is not real gold...fooooools gold.
