Searching for Gold in the mountain and river beds

Hi I'm a novice and would like to find out more information about where on can find gold in mountain and river beds
I really love look at Rocks but I need to identify the different types of rock and soil that is associated with rock and Gold deposits
Where I was going to look was dirty Quarts type rock.. Also Can you guys recommend a detector (I was think Falcon MD20 + Kit).. Budget is low but would like the option to
scubadive for gold too. the Area I was think of exploring is Sardinia so any Help or advice would be gladly received

The best way to dial in on where to look for gold in your area (or whatever area you wish to look in) is to do a little research on where gold has already been found.

As for learning more about gold and mining, you can find LOTS of great information at our Gold Prospecting section:

There are also numerous books available online for download, usually in .pdf format. Many of the books from the 1800's and early 1900's still hold excellent information!!
