Don't overlook the capabilities of moderately priced machines like the ACE 350 by Garrett. A new ACE 350 is in the $300.00 range. As has been suggested, you can always buy a gently used machine. Garrett stands behind their products and they have an excellent after sales support team.

Also, do not overlook older machines. Sometimes you run into top of the line detectors from the middle 80's, for less than the price of a new entry level machine. I've a 30 year old Fisher 1260X, and a 1265X which are more capable than many of the new ones today..... In my humble opinion
