Here's a picture of the "what is this" medal. like I said, big old oak trees, some brick, very old house place. no roads to it.. found indian heads, piece of a pocket watch, piece of a pocket knife, a few tax tokens, buttons, etc, and this weird piece. maybe someone has an answer... :) View attachment 1407843

When I first saw this piece, my first inclination was a French button, or token, or even a medal....
I'm pretty certain it's not a coin...
But French?....my gut feeling is leaning there....

I am in northeast Louisiana. Based on old LA history, there were French or atleast French Creole down south LA. (New Orleans, Baton Rouge, ) etc. The spot I found this relic, was a couple of generations back of a family I read about in this area. They certainly were not French. Just plain old country folks/farmers. I found an old large 1cent piece from Honduras or somewhere like that, I would have to dig that thing out and let you guys look at it. I think the date was turn of the century ish....

The republic on the back is weird. I certainly would think the date would be turn of the century. just from the research on the old home stead. It is bothering me too. I usually find other coins to help with the dating. As you can see on the previous picture of the old chimney , that it is not a pleasant/easy dig....summer time would be impossible. lol

I will post a few more pics of finds . I had a bag of old pocket watch parts, pocket knives, all kinds of old stuff. I took it too work to sift through etc, everyone wanted to dig through the finds. they passed over the coins I had. silver coins at that lol. I was just thinking, " I really like to silver hunt, or coins etc..but the old relics is what everyone wants to look at....lol.. guess its true.. coins are boring to some. but the old make-up compact , lipstick case, detective badge, even square nails are what attracts attention to most people.
Thanks again to all. I will try to keep it exciting on the post lol.

I don't know anything about them but that is really overgrown. If you are hunting somewhere you can clear off a little to get to the foundation sides, might help but may also attach attention of others. And if you can't clear it, Good Luck and make the best of it! I like Silver coins and would be digging for all those i could find but the relics are neat too! If no one can tell you anything, you may take them to "Today's Finds" or "What is It?" and see if someone that stop by those threads might know.
