I saw a REAL LIVE COUGAR TONIGHT!

Pulled in my drive, it was at the edge of the woods. The headlights of the car caught it....being a cougar. Easily the same one that snarled at me Thanksgiving 2015. We had tracks last winter and spring all over the place and now I have finally SEEN IT!

Nice as long as it's a distant visit and not up close and personal. That could be a whole lot different but from a safe distance they great to see.

Now that is really cool! I've only ever seen one... glimpse of a large cat with a long, rope-like tail running across the road.

No nightclubs here. No zombies either. I have a clear, lit area at night all the way to the door. I have watched every night coming in or out for movement, for sure. And have a really big knife hidden outside for cougars and such, just in case. I'll get a trail camera out. It doesn't come around very often.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to push a "really big knife" into an
animals body? Cougar has no idea what a knife is, so it won't fear it.
While you're trying to stick that big knife in it, it's going to be shredding
your carcass.

Such close contact inevitably turns out bad for the human.

You'd be better served with a metal trash can lid (shield) and a short handle
club that you can easily manage. Make yourself look large, pound the trash
can lid and yell loud at it...make it think you are mad and dangerous.

NEVER back a cat into a corner..always make sure it has a way of escape,
and the best route is free space behind it.

IF you do actually have to confront it, that's your best bet.

Lacking any weapon or shield, make yourself look large, yell and
scream at it like it's your most hated enemy. Show no fear, just
anger.

Odds are high it'll bail right out of there.

You live, cougar lives. Win, Win.

Oldjerseygirl, I'm 1 hour and 10 minutes from the southern Jersey state line by car. Cougars are on the way. They're breeding around here.

I don't think so. Way the lights are around the house I have a 100' head start, and will only have to go 15' to safety. Like I said, enough tasty deer around here I don't think it will come close. Now the bobcat, he's a different story. Comes right up to my steps to check out the chickens, who are NOT amused. My big Maine Coon cat scares the tar out of them when they see him.

Cats (even big ones) are still cats, and they not only get hungry, but
curious. That bobcat ain't looking for trouble, just a meal, and no doubt
he loves chicken. Also, like any cats they don't like taking risks, as they
know if they get hurt they may not be able to hunt..for them that spells
starvation, especially in winter. Unless that bobcat was rabid (highly
unlikely), cornered, or you do something incredibly foolish, you should
be in no danger.

Here's something I've always wanted to try, but never have had the chance.
I'm sure it would work very well at keeping those cats away from your place.

Download one of the "hounds hunting" sounds from above, and play it loudly
over a speaker pointed out the window. Cats hate dogs...it's universal, and as
soon as that cougar hears/thinks those hounds are barking up his keester, he'll
be headed for the next zip code...

We have lions and Bob cats here where I live also.. Lions... Mountain lion... Couger.. Here we call them lions. We are not so happy when we see one.. They are the top predator and not something we want hanging anywhere around our homes and or live stock.. Be safe and remember it ain't a Disney move and its not looking to get pet.
