Is it just me?

My friends and I get a real kick out of them, and take pictures when we see them.

Do you?

I took personally took these pictures, since November.

I like 'em, but my personal favorite license plate of all time wasn't even personalized, it was generic from California, it read 2USD069 It was one of those that if you didn't realize it, you'd never know it had a hidden message.

How do you know it wasn't personalized?

The first custom plate I ever saw was way back around 1975ish.

I was about ten, driving with my parents and a car drives by with the plate having the letter C. Just the single letter.

Personally i think they're dumb. just another reason to throw your money away. The other day I saw a mustang with the vanity plate of MUSTANG. If you want everyone to know your business, just make a sticker, it's cheaper. Now, I'm not trying to put anyone down here, but you asked.

I used to, especially when not everyone had one and they were not so cryptic. Sometimes they are an inside joke or knowledge only. Back when VA started with Motorcycle personalized, I limited edition Yamaha and had the serial number on the plate (it was #343 of 1000 so the plate was 343). I blew to motor on the bike but still have the plate in a box somewhere. Sometimes the personalized are easy and fun but driving, just don't have the time to think about them. Too much else to focus on.

Plates like INSPIRE, OH SNAP, WHYUMAD, IHADAV8, DREAMIN, and WASSUP aren't telling people's business.

They're just a way of having a little fun :)

When Ronald Regan was shot he said "I must have forgot to duck."
I thought he could have had a great plate "4GOTTODK"
I wanted to have Homer Simpson's famous remark D'OH! but the State didn't do 'or !
The problem with these plates is if your of criminal intent. They are really easy to remember.

I have Vet's plates on my rides only because I thought they might get me out of a jam. Like a ticket.
My Vet's plates were once stolen. Don't know why. The new ones are put on with self-locking nuts. I know that won't stop someone with
real intent but might slow them down when realizing they need 2 wrenches.

Pagers! Yer showin' yer age gramps :) LOL :)

All the pics I posted happen to be of PA plates. My wife and I have a folder on an external drive that has dozens of plates from across the country. We also capture funky advertising signs.

Two particularly memorable ones...

One in Gainesville, Florida: "Pizza and Beer on Tap". We'd never seen pizza on tap before.

One right by our house, they've had it for years. "Lunch Special. We Have Worms". We never inquired about it.

I almost got a personalized plate once, then I realized how easy they make you to identify.
On another not one of my friends in high school had a standard issue tag that was "ZPC 420".

I once had a '67 Firebird. When I went to DMV for plates the girl handed me a set and asked if I was OK with them as several others had turned them down.
HRM-666
My cousin interpreted them as His Royal Majesty's 666 and refused to ride in the car, especially as it was a FIREbird.
One day I was delivering pizzas and an elderly lady told me my car was evil.

Wish I still had that car....

I'm surprised that they offered the 666 plates, in the same vein that many old buildings do not have a thirteenth floor listed on the elevator.
