My Chickens....the shock...the blood....

So I go out to give the spoiled rotten brats their breakfast this morning. They were ticked I wasn't out at SUNRISE, but, they'll live. Anyway, they are beating themselves into the sides of their house to get to their chicken food, apple and 2 danish. (No, they are not spoiled.)

So, yes, all three are accounted for. I open the hen house and there's blood EVERYWHERE. ??

So I start a chicken inspection. They don't care. They're wolfing down the danish. It's always the danish first. I don't see a thing wrong with them.

So I figured the little velociraptors caught and 'et them a MOUSE last night. Chickens will eat anything, and they do hunt.

My chickens are the same way. Little savages and were a bunch of freeloaders for a while. I am finally starting to get eggs on a regular basis now that it has warmed up and the days are getting longer.

My ladies are 3 years old. Just celebrated their birthday. No more eggs, they haven't laid one since last fall. They're just rotten, spoiled pets, which is what they were intended for anyway.

Looks like you have an Americana in the flock? We have 1 and she lays green eggs.

I lost one hen around Thanksgiving. She died in her sleep. Found her all peaceful like in the morning. Never figured it out, but it apparently was fast.

My chickens will jump up and steal chicken tenders from you if you are eating them outside. Sometimes they team up with the dog to steal food.

Mine think they weigh 100 pounds. At least they will come at you like they are if you have meal works or crickets for them. Then I have one that gets broody every once in a while. SHe can get real nasty. Im glad she doesnt weigh 100 pounds when she is broody!!

Don't all birds like worms? I had chickens for the first time last spring. Late last summer, I dug some nice juicy worms from my compost pile and tossed them into my chickens. They ignored them. I did this couple times again in the following weeks. Stupid chickens let the worms crawl away, unharmed. Dang chickens.

Go to the natural food store and get some fertilized eggs. Let them warm up to outside temperature and give her a few. Let her keep them. Quick way to get new chickens.

Pa plateau hiker, they like blueberry muffins, watermelon, apples, chicken salad (not so much the lettuce) anad about anything else you have. They also like eggs.

I bought some fertile eggs from eBay lol, for my broody Silkie (rip ), she hatched out two full size chickens. Kind of funny having a tiny silkie raise chickens bigger than her at 2 months old.

Read a book once that said if you grabbed and then dipped your chicken in very cold water, they'd stop being broody. Made me laugh. Chicken be like, "Dang... was that NECESSARY?"

So far I havent had to do that. I just take her off the nest 3 or 4 times and it breaks her of it. She is also a young chicken.

Make a nest box with holes the size of eggs, in which the eggs go through, into a box. Problem is keeping them from cracking, I am pretty sure that would be a good idea to stop brody chickens lol

The poor frog or bunny that comes into range of my flock of 8!
My 4 yr old hens stopped laying mid-summer of last year. They started laying again, last month, 5-6 eggs per day. Not sure what changed.
