Depends on the coin material. I can't really tell, what are they?

There is some great information at metal detecting world.com about cleaning and preserving coins. It's tough when they are that bad. Good luck!!!

If they are copper coins, maybe try hot peroxide on them. Put a cup with peroxide (without coins in the cup) in the microwave for 40 seconds. Drop the coins in & let them fizz for a while (5-10 minutes). Take them out every 5-10 minutes, dry them off, see what they look like (if you don't like the way they look put them back again), until you are satisfied. After peroxide you may have to wash remaining green stuff off

Did this with this crusty Indian Head Cent.

If they are not copper coins, DO NOT put them in peroxide!

Not really sure, the small one is the same size as a nickel buy thin, copper, the bigger one is a world's Fair coin Maryland something 19?2 green crap is blocking most of the front, on the back it talks about the Line State. Not sure what it's made out of, it's heavy same size as a quarter and just as thick. It showed "Quarter" on my detector so that's not much help, lol Thx

Tater treatment - Stick them in a potato overnight, wash with toothbrush.

vinegar and potatoes....sounds like a plate of French fries

peroxide won't hurt your coins too much, that sounds like a sensible solution
