the tropical storm is dropping a lot of water down south, may hinder detecting for some for a while. flooding can make some places harder to hunt with more debris and yet expose new places to detect. while some states may be flooding, other states may be in a drought and both can be very bad in their own way. Seems like every area of the country has its challenges for detectorists but we still get out and find stuff.

The media has blown a run of the mill tropical storm into the doppelganger of Katrina.

Oh well, sells commercials and newspapers.

I'm a native New Orleanian, went through Betsy and Camille. The details I'm seeing tell me it isn't much worse than a simple cold front. We've had cold fronts come through here in Arkansas with sustained winds of 40+ mph that delivered 5+ inches of rain over 2 days.

Nothing to see here ... but hype.

The sad thing is, when there is a real threat folks will equate it with this "storm" --- much like folks thinking Katrina wasn't much because all the other over hyped storms not doing much. The media cost thousands of lives by doing such a disservice. That loss of life is mostly their fault.

Yeah, that's about all ... RAIN.

Right now, maximum sustained winds are 20 mph.

Just stupid to even talk about it as a storm ... it is no longer a Tropical Storm, but a "wave".

The media is so VERY STUPID!!!

I'll watch the media reporting on hurricanes. I'm waiting for the reporter to get hit by flying debris.

unfortunately, the media has the power to alter minds by only supplying info that they want us to see. People say something and what they say can be chopped to fit something else. the public gets scammed constantly

Let us pray for the people who lost their lives.

The storm was in WESTERN Louisiana. NOT Mississippi. Definitely NOT ALABAMA. Yet, the child that died there --- THE MEDIA blamed it on the tropical storm. I don't think so.

The other reported death was in Texas was a person found in a truck at the beach.

Either Cindy was larger than Katrina, or someone lied.

We're going to get some thunderstorms later today and some rain tomorrow. The Media says it is the aftermath of the storms moving through the south. They also said that a Sasquatch was captured in Texas and a Unicorn has been filmed while grazing in Death Valley.

I live in NH and am getting some thunderstorms today, will be pretty nice because it seems like it hasn't rained in week. I tried metal detecting at my new house yesterday but had to stop because the grass was so dry I felt it would never grow back.
