I don't get it. If metal detecting has liabilities, I don't see how this could apply to a meeting where nothing is dug.

It has to do with getting a meeting room. All groups using this facility are going to be required to have insurance.

Good Lord. Ridiculous..

It wouldn't be an Act of God in the insurance holders policy if somebody slipped in the bathroom. Its pretty standard for a private venue and some city venues to require clubs to have a separate rider to cover any liability that might occur. There's so many little things that could happen because of a meeting, bathroom floods, electronic malfunction causing a small fire, slips and falls, trampling(better known as a human stampede) going to the monthly finds table even. (little humour thrown in at the end)

Hold your meetings at the local church, donate a little to the church maybe 10% of what an insurance policy would cost for the other venue.

Our metal detecting club was recently asked to maintain some group liability insurance
so we can hold our meetings at a specific venue.
This is in the US.
Does anyone have ideas or names where we might be able to get say a million dollar policy
for relatively cheap? We are registered as a non-profit.

Looking for suggestions.

These policies are quite common. Talk to State Farm, they insured my gold prospecting school. Every policy is tailored to your individual needs, so get at least two-quotes. State Farm, and USAA. :skullflag:

Your club may want to consider incorporating as well, to help protect individual members from being sued for your individual assets, as opposed to "club" assets.

Thanks for the comments. Anyone else wants to add to it, feel free. You would think there would be tons of places to get a venue that might not require this, but keep in mind we are in CA, the "nanny state". People sue people for anything here.
