We have more species of rattlesnake in Arizona, than anyplace on earth. One of those is called the "Green Mojave." Nasty, aggressive, and just plain mean. There is only one way to handle them. C & C Snakeshot. :skullflag:

Our biggest problem in the Florida Panhandle areas is Cottonmouths (Water Mocassins). Last summer, we killed five of them in our six house neighborhood yards. Two in ours...one in the front and one on the patio.

Living out in the country, and in Texas, snakes are just about a part of everyday life especially with the two tanks {farm ponds} and cottonmouths who love water. I shoot all rattlesnakes, cottonmouths and any other poisonous snakes I see while out working fences or cattle etc. All other snakes that are beneficial like bull snakes, rat snakes etc,. I leave alone because they are very helpful killing vermin and other nasty things. May I suggest that you buy an inexpensive book on snakes and see what the good ones look like so you don't freak because you see a snake that may be harmless. Also, should you get bit at any time, if the bite has two puncture wounds, its a poisonous snake. Otherwise, its NOT poisonous so don't panic. Also the head of a poisonous snake is triangle shaped, like that damn cottonmouth pictured above. Non poisonous snakes heads are not that pronounced as a triangle. Most snakes will avoid you but those cottonmouths are aggressive and will come after, or attack, a human on purpose.

When you're out in the woods, carry a walking stick and tap the ground as you walk along. Snakes pick up that vibration and maybe you won't startle them. Snakes are more afraid of you than you are of them, except.....water snakes, which includes cottonmouths and their cousins copperheads. For some reason they're very aggressive, territorial, and not afraid to challenge you. I have no problem with people that shoot them dead, particularly copperheads. Growing up in southwestern Oklahoma the protocol everybody I knew used for dealing with snakes was exactly the same as Unclebuck257's.

When I was about 12, my little brother (8) and I were using a piece of bacon on a string to catch crawdads in a drainage ditch that led to the bayou, in Dickenson, Texas, (My Dad was working for NASA, in Clearwater) and we use to sell the crawdads for a penny-apiece to folks in the neighborhood for Icee money. So we are crawdaddin' away when my brother pulls the string up with a big cottonmouth hanging on to our crawdad! I wet myself!!!! :laughing7:

Kind of ironic, you don't like snakes, but don't mind that King Cobra in your hand. :laughing7:

I don't mind snakes at all. We have very few venomous snakes (timber rattler, copperhead). I've never seen either. These two Black Rat Snakes were in a basement (I do wildlife control). These guys were only 5.5 - 6'.

The snakes are out right now sunning in Tennessee .They are slow though as we had to stop several times last weekend and move them off the 4 wheeler trails. I just won't kill them anymore unless they are poisonous and by the house.

Terry, snake porn! The horror of it! No, not really. I almost stepped on a sidewinder some years back. I got a great pic of him. It's here somewhere. Didn't have to change my clothes either! We both lived happily ever after.

My wise ole grandad told me. Son, there are three kinds of snakes. A live one, dead one and a stick that looks like one. Ah the wisdom our forefathers.
