I can't help you on a hunt but I am a high speed racing fan. When at Bonneville I was told there is lost stuff out there. People crossed the salt as a short cut. Said some things partially buried in salt. That idea always fascinated me. It's such an other worldly place. If I was close I would find out if the stories are true.
If you go, time your visit at race time. It's the best deal in racing. Very friendly crews.
Take lots of sun screen. The salt is like a nuke tanning salon. oh ya, and there's no water.
