Longer barrels give greater velocity and therefore greater muzzle energy than shorter barrels. Also there is the length of the sight plane (distance between sights). It isn't so much that shorter barrels are nessecarrily less accurate, but that they can not be aimed as precisely. Then there is the conundrum of excessive muzzle flash.

As an example- I got .22 SNS with a 2-1/2" barrel. Standard .22 long rifle out of a 20" barrel is around 1,200fps. My 2.5" 22lr barrel gives a velocity around only 650fps.

But I can whack a pop can with that little SNS from 25 yards away fairly regular.

Now if they only made the judge in 20 or 12 gauge:laughing9:

I've got the Judge too but it's too heavy with all the other stuff I carry. The Bond derringer only weights 23 oz. And you can buy something like 13 other cal's. In different lengths. The barrels interchange.

Using .44 special +p loads,out of a 21/2 inch barrel they're traveling 900 to 1100 fps,depending on the cartridge manufacturer.

Nice one. I carry a Judge, I like a handheld shotgun haha

Nice gun. I have the Judge magnum shoots 3" shot shells. 450 bucks and I scored 1000+ 3" .410's at an auction, a lot of them the "defender" rounds. I had to buy it!
Do you have a preferred .45 long? I notice my judge is picky with that round.

If you are referring to the .410 Bond Arms derringer, no when you're looking a Copper Head in the face. I've shot this pistol numbers of times and it is well balanced. It comes down to the ER or not. Good luck out there.
