My first detector was a hand me down Whites 4900 back in 1973. My older brother gave it to me, showed me how to use it and took me to a spot where I found my first relic, a 58 cal. Minie ball if I remember correctly.

Great thread...my first detector was a White's something or other in 1998, can't remember which model but it was north of $500 so it was no joke. Im pretty sure I dragged it up to my old elementary school a couple times, poked around the slide and swings, pulled in less than a dollar total and tossed it in the corner...(TWINS!)...And you DO NOT want to know how/why/how much I got rid of it for...If you really want to know I'll tell, but it's painful, in more ways than one...Ddf.

Whites MXT purchased several years ago. I just can't let it go. It was a bit expensive but it sure has worked well for me. Great on coins and relics, not bad on nuggets but certainly not the best either.
