So I wanted to pick up a new detector for land and water. I was really interested in the Minelab Equinox 800 but they appear to be on long back order by everyone. I got to looking into the Quest Pro. I have read about the copyright issues with First Texas. My understanding is that Deteknix is officially gone and has been restarted as Quest. The information on the Quest pro metal detector and Quest as a company are limited. I would hate to buy a higher end detector only to have the company fold.

Does anyone have any information or opinions on Quest as a company or the Quest Pro?

I see you own the Deteknix Quest Pro ( and it's collecting dust). My understanding is the new Quest pro uses completely different software than the old Deteknix Quest Pro, due to the copyright issues with First Texas.

Deteknix had a contest to name their new detector, and sonofagun I won!....
so yea, I named the “quest”, and I got a new machine, and all the swag.
The machine is over there in the corner, and the hat doesn’t fit.

I’m not familiar with their failures after that.

Ok, thanks for that interesting back-story.

Jocap, Quest makes a lot of good products. That being said, we no longer have a waiting list on Equinox 600 or 800 and units are in stock. A multi frequency detector that's waterproof and starts at $649 is hard to beat these days.
