Planned Parenthood already has a ship named "U.S. Babykiller".

CV RU-486. :icon_thumleft: :laughing7: :laughing7:

As far as naming carriers, so far it has been United States leaders or one type or another. Maybe when the CSS starts commissioning ships again? :dontknow:

Remember back when ships had cool names? Like "Dauntless", or "Intrepid", or "Starship Enterprise?

I guess they used up the cool names and had to resort to recycling people's names. Still, wouldn't it be cool to have a "U.S.S. Radical Terorist M***** F*****"?

I think it ought to be policy that they can't name a ship after a person until that person has been dead 25 years.

USS Gabriele Gifford and USS John Lewis (proposed). Are we that desperate for names?

Can't fault her for that.

But prior to that her notable achievements were being CEO of a small tire outlet chain that Grandfather started, and being elected to the AZ State and then US House of Representatives. So, apparently, getting shot is what catapulted her out of obscurity.

The USN has conventions for naming ships based on class, except when it chooses not to follow them. In the case of the Seawolf class, I'm not sure that there was ever a convention.

Carriers (with the exception of Enterprise, and that name is supposed to come back for a later ship) are currently named after people. Naming future ones after people would be appropriate, but there are some politics involved with who gets a carrier named after them, and who has to settle for something else. Carriers are normally named after Presidents, but not always. They can be named after admirals, but again, not always. Follow the wrong politics or piss off the wrong people and you may still get your ship, but it won't be a carrier.

Thus, Chester Nimitz and Ronald Reagan got carriers, but Hyman Rickover and Jimmy Carter had to settle for submarines.

Personally, I think that naming one after Boorda would be a nice way of putting that whole issue to bed, but the fact that this never gets discussed makes me think that there are still some unanswered questions there that various people would rather not bring to light.
