These stories are written like this to remind the people that we could not exist if it were not for what they are doing. That the country would quickly fall apart if this shut down were to continue too long.

Can you believe someone kicked a 100-200 year old catcus tree??! That would not have happened if not for this shutdown.

I can't freaking believe it.

If there were rangers present, the guy who wanted thorns in his foot probably would have done it anyways. The only difference is he might have been caught. Instead he just got a foot full of thorns. I don't think he'll try that again but I could be wrong.

It's not cut and dried, but essential employees CAN receive double pay. A link to the article is shown below.
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/white-house/shutdown-bonus-some-federal-workers-can-get-double-pay

Here's another link. Only about 25K workers opted in to the lawsuit. Despite the judge's order, I think they are still waiting for the extra pay, more than five years after the 2013 furloughs.

I thought the shut down meant, they work, but they just don't get paid.

Work? Do you mean to tell me that those Numbskulls work in Washington? I thought all this time they just run around playing the Blame Game and pointing their crooked lil' fingers at either party.:hello:

That’s probably hard work after you do it long enough.

No Supervision ? WOW ! You mean they are Treating people Like Adults ?
With Personal Freedoms ? In the U.S. ?
Just WOW !

Seriously. People are not allowed to Pick anything up in National Parks.
They are not allowed to Detect & Save Relics from Rotting away.

Personally I think a True Shut Down would be a Good thing.
What would it Hurt ?

If no one sees it, It doesn't Exist.

Why not let people look for & Have what doesn't Exist ?
& Officially why not let "People" Have what Belongs to the "People" ?

Unfortunately, Most of the articles are B.S.
someone may leave footprints or Tire tracks where some Stick in the Mud may have a fit,
however
My Guess if you Walk into a National Park with a detector, or even Bend over and Pick up & Pocket anything, including a rock. Law enforcement Will Arrest you. Shut down or Not.

Only loss is Revenue and possibly if you walk into a rest room
it will smell like a Outhouse. (Take your own TP) & Live Free !!!!!

The Political part of my response is in the TreasureNet Politics Forum Titled:
the Shut Down needs one Change to Work.

I'd say yes.

Not necessarily in Numbers, Just in Government Pockets.
souvenir shops, School Group Tours, Fees & Taxes etc.

There are some that won't show up,
Simply because they are too High Brow to risk "Ruffing" it.
& I suppose a few Hotels & Camp sites may have to Lower Prices to fill up.

But I would think more People who do go, Will feel freer to Check things out
and Enjoy the Little Things.

Especially those who can Pull to the Side of the Road, Get out And walk up to something and Look it. That couldn't before because they would have had to park a mile away and be Carried most of the way.

The operative words are "Non Essential Government Employees"
I'd be ok with that being permanent.
Walmart needs greeters, mickey-D's needs burger flippers.

Everyone who really is Needed, is still on the Job.

The media is just cherry picking one or two scenarios that look bad (ie full trash cans) and exaggerating them to make it sound as if all of the National Parks have immediately become landfills in order to spin political views. The reality is that it's the end of the Holiday Season, and the dead of winter and the off season for people traveling to be outdoors. And frankly I'd be shocked if foreign countries news agencies didn't add their own spin to make a few tour guids being laid off temporarily to sound as if America has collapsed into anarchy.

The American people tend to get confused. The FEDERAL government's job is to defend the nation, provide currency, and assist the states in times of emergency.

The state are supposed to run autonomous to the federal govt.

In PA we have this lovely stormwater fee that we now have to pay stating this week. How did this happen? The EPA said to PA, you owe us money. So Pa bilks it's residents of the state to pay for it. So the more non-porous surfaces you have, the more money you pay. It's a cash grab. That's all it is.

For years the restrooms in areas around the lake areas looked and smelled like they were used by bears with projectile diarrhea. Lot of phone numbers left by men seeking men.
Maybe a state funding problem although there seemed enough money to harass eoplfe about having the bundle of permits needed to enjoy the outddoors.
I suppose there are some who actually suffer from the "shutdown".
It is baffling to me how people here and abroad are worried their chains might be in danger of being relaxed a little.
