Hey guys! Recently I bought this small hatchet (picture below) at an antique shop for $4. The hatchet was rusted over and I thought it would be a nice project to make brand new and useable.

I begain by taking most of the rust off with my benchtop sander with 80 grit. After that, I grabbed a couple of files to get in the corners the disc sander couldn't get too. I then put some higher sandpaper on and polished and shappened the blade. I then begain to buff out the hatchet with a polishing compound. Then I started making the handel out of scrap popler I had. Its a pretty simple handel and then I glued the hatchet head to the handel with gorila glue.

I think it came out great!

I also made a video on my YouTube channel if you wanted to follow along that way:icon_thumleft:

Thanks for checking it out!

Great restoration, looks similar to a roofing hammer, the kind they use for wood shingles.

Super nice restoration!!! I have an old 19th century axe I’ve been planning to re-handle but I’m going to leave the patina
