As for "inspiring a bunch of yahoos" to rush out and buy detectors (and make a spectacle of themselves giving the hobby a bad name): I highly doubt that the average non-md'r clicks on such links, to read.

Sort of like if you saw a head-line or link-title to an article about needle-point crochet , you probably wouldn't click on it, nor mentally even register the headline. Right ? Why ? Because you're not into needle point crochet. But someone who is into needle-point crochet will see the title, and read it.

So too is a niche article title like this likely to entice all of us md'r types to click on. But to someone not into it, doubtful they'd think much of it , nor be inspired to rush out and get into it. No-more-so than you'd be likely to "rush out and get into needle-point", if an article appeared touting the financial benefits of sewing your own clothes, etc....

Plus the tv wants to show that you find a cool coin or relic every couple sweeps you gotta be one of us to enjoy this hobby patient and love treasure and even if you dont find anything all day the excitement of what you might find every plug is almost as fun not many people who are that way.lol They dont find a gold ring every hour they will get mad and never go again
