Solid wood with metal accessories, and real cloth sails. I put this together, had to shape the hull and everything about 1986. It's looking it's age.

I think I'll try to restore it while I'm laid up these next few weeks.

What do you think? IMG_0432.JPG

A. I think it’s a fabulous piece of work.
B. I think you have more patience (and dexterity) than I do.

Is this a model of a particular ship? You did a great job building her, and now, after surviving that mighty tempest, she's needing her rigging reworked! That, and a fresh coat of lacquer, ready to set sail.

I started yesterday on the front. I will go slow. I think I'll have to drill and peg the spars to the masts. Paint is easy. The sails will be dampened to lay correctly then glued. Paint is easy, getting it between the lines is hard. It's the Thermopalye, if I spelled that right, a post Civil War clipper ship. It was huge. Did you know the "Cutty Sark", a similar ship, still lives in Greenwich, England as a museum? This is going to take an optivisor and a lot of patience.

My digestive system just figured out I had surgery 10 days ago and is really ticked off, but I doubt anything serious. Just out of whack and mad at me.

Going to be too hot this week to do anything outside, it gorgeous from inside the nice air conditioned house.

I cain't not no how spelle no moar!

Thanks Creskol. Must not be doing too bad, fed the cats, gave the one his insulin shot, fed and watered the needy hens (3 little monsters although "Scrambles" is about 10 pounds), so not little, took out the trash, did the one dish, heck with the rest, cleaned both cat boxes, found my drill bits, getting ready to go to doctor for visit and it's 7:20. Yeah, I'm icky!

That is a nice ship Smokey. I believe as the others do, that it is indeed worth saving. This reminds me of the ship the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides). Our Dad put that together back in the early 70's and it sat on the mantle of our fireplace for years. Here's hoping your rehab is complete and quick. This restoration should keep you busy. It's too hot to be outside anyway.

I also have an 18" USS Constellation and a "Harvey", an early 19th century Baltimore Clipper in my fleet. Will probably work on it today. After my nap.

Good luck with it and get well soon we miss your posts. When I was younger I loved building models. I built the really small scale ww2 stuff. Did a few of them and ran out of patience!!

yep it's worth it. If i had the skills and patience i would do it for sure.

I still have a few untouched plastic car models i purchased about 30 or 40 years ago. Maybe i should put them together when i get tired of coin roll hunting.

Routine needs of you and your critters force you to stir about.
Projects help break the tedium after routine while recovering.

Nice work there already.
Restoration would be a labor of focus , with a hint of deja vu. Both good!

Research the value unassembled. If you bought the right ones you will come up big!

It's starting to feel better. IMG_0435.JPG Five of seven sail sets are complete. You can only do one or two individual sails a day. Glue has to dry hard. The forward mast is getting a new sail, I ordered some fabric which will be here Monday.
