Nope, thats a bs excuse. I get that error all the time lately. Just had it a few minutes ago, which would be 4pm eastern. I see it randomly at all hours of the day or night, and even when I dont see, this website takes a long time to load it pages. Its ONLY this website, because everything else pops up instantly. Methinks the owners need a better server!

I'm just taking a wag at this, but I believe a server can only handle
so much bandwidth at a time, and the site is using more bandwidth
than the server can keep up with.

Again just a wag, but people commonly load very large image files (5MG+),
and they use up a lot of bandwidth when downloaded. It's not so much
that one user is viewing the pics, but when there's 50 people viewing the same
pages/images it sucks up bandwidth like a vacuum.

What might be a huge help is if people would reset the image sizes for
their phone cameras. Anything around 1000 pixels on the longest
side is generally more than sufficient unless you're planning to do a
large print of the image (like 24"x36"). The image quality will also improve
with a smaller image size.

I believe that's one of the almost countless options of the vBulletin software that is used here.

vBulletin is the high water mark when it comes to forum software.

Can something trip it because of certain conditions that may occur at certain times?

Sorry, I don't know.

Can it be turned on and off as an option?

Very likely yes.

The one expert on vBulletin software that I know is no longer sane, so I have no one to ask.

My advise:
Be patient, and be happy that you have such a nice forum to learn from and post on.
(and an admin and mods that give their time to keep it up and running)

It is not necessarily the forum owner's fault. I have run my technical book review web sites for years on different Internet Service Providers.
The problem arises when you don't buy a complete server. Most of the time you just rent space a server that is shared with other applications. So for months and months everything is fine then your customers start complaining about pages loading slowly or "clocking". This most often happens with the ISP has put a new application on your server that is hogging the time slices and thus the new application is slowing down your application. If you complain enough to the ISP you can get your bulletin board software move to another server that is not as loaded down. But then it can happen all over again. Such is the life of not renting a dedicated server.

We store back almost 20 years of postings and pictures. How many websites do that? Do you have any idea the number of times the server has been up dated to store that amount of info with changing technology? I know they are constantly updating and adding to the server and it is always a race.

Yes they get glitches but short of purging all the info it goes with the territory sometimes. Also this is just one of several sites they host. Yes I also run a little website and it is very easy to get anyone to host. Not so easy though when you store as much as T-net does and have people staffed working full time on just the web site.

We are always sorry for the glitches but short of shedding weight so to speak things are going to happen and we report them to the full time employees as we get them. I am on fiber optics and use an Apple but even before had no problems. I do run a strong Adblock and always log in. I have been timed out a few times also. Hopefully your problem will resolve as it does not happen across the board.
Sometimes the site is down for maintenance and virus scans

This has been happening to me at a certain time of day for the last few days so I have now been getting on at an inconvenient but different time.
I do have a question though and that is if posting many videos has an impact on this problem? And I also question if posting many music videos is a violation of the rules?
I see many music videos posted on a particular sub forum and even though I like the music being posted I don't care for it being done on this site if it causes
problems, if not I will just continue to ignore them. I don't understand why people would want to do this because this is the best treasure site that I know of
and should just stick with treasure related postings unless it is in the General Discussion forum. Even then my opinion is music should be found on a music site.
Before I get off my soap box I want to give a big thanks to the owner/owners and the staff for this great site.

I dont see the point of music videos on the this forum either, but the videos arent hurting the BW of TNET, because they arent being stored and loaded off its server. They are just links back to the original hosting site, usually youtube.

Pictures seem to be at least one of the contributing "hogs" ... or so I have been told.

Hence the RPT (Random Picture thread) closing.

Had I known this I would have started the "Random Picture Thread with no pictures" thread.

I think it’s just a glitch. Happens a lot to me as well, but I overlook it. The reason for the lower numbers here is because certain hostility isn’t allowed, or putting down someone’s finds. People like BigWaveDave, Treasure_Hunter, Jason in Enid, Creskol, and Smokey the Cat have become like family to me. This has, and always will be a family oriented site, that’s strict, but fair, and has some amazing mods, that make this place unlike others very toned down so younger folks can enjoy it without viewing the negative language, cursing, or putting others down. I’ve been a moderator on 2 of the well known sites before, and I say these guys kick into high gear once they are aware of something wrong.

I hardly get on the website itself anymore, but I know on my Tapatalk version on my new iPhone it never shows for sale items, it’ll show like one or two, but that’s it. I prefer the web version, but don’t have my laptop on me at the moment

Jason is correct, videos are not stored on server.

Problem on your thread was it was massively heavy with pictures and members quoting posts including the pictures causing a problem on that particular thread, not a problem with the servers. Vast majority of threads do not have the picture quantity your thread had. The thread had thousands upon thousands of pictures in it causing a problem on the thread, thread had over 43,000 replies when it was closed.

You know you have option to view website on your phone like a computer, use your search engine on your phone to search for TreasureNet, then view it like a desktop.

I view it that way, it’s just easier on my laptop because the site is saved, and I don’t have to log back in. I do log in on my phone through the search engine all the time. I was just speaking primarily about Tapatalk, and it not showing certain things
